The Kestrel
Posted by Dan | Posted on 14-07-2010
If you follow my blog, you’ll know all about Falcon. If you don’t then get ready.
I was on a shoot in Big Sur and I mentioned Falcon to Jason O’Dell (a superb photographer by the way). He and his assistant dropped their sandwiches when I told them that these guys were our friends and that we worked with them in various capacities (I must add that thankfully none of those capacities involved the actual building of bikes!). They then proceeded to tell me what they knew about how Ian built this, the latest Falcon - The Kestrel. And it was a lot (none of which made much sense to me as they were talking about overhead manifold sprockets and diagnostic bearing attaches, or something like that).
Now, the Bullet, being the first Falcon Motorcycle (that belongs to actor Jason Lee) has a place in history that can never be taken away, so it was a tall order for Ian Barry and Amarylis Knight to create something that could even compete with the Bullet, let alone surpass it.
Well in many people’s eyes, they did just that.
So bike lovers, wait until you’re alone, then get your tissues at the ready. You’re gonna need them.
BTW… this video is in HD so go to full screen baby.

Vote Rob!
Posted by Dan | Posted on 29-05-2010
Are there no bounds to this man’s talents? If you read this blog often you’ll have ‘met’ my step brother Rob Madin (aka Brett Domino).

Well now he’s a finalist in the Doritos King Of Ads competition. Out of 2000 entries Rob’s entry is down to the last three, meaning that he’s a finalist. All credit to all three finalists, but I think that Rob’s has the edge but that doesn’t mean anything unless everyone votes for him. So my friends, simply click on the link below and help ensure that Rob gets the nod.

Thanks everyone!

Dan, Patrick (Fall Out Boy), a dude from The Bravery and Arc Kid
Posted by Dan | Posted on 19-05-2010
Ah, yes, every now and again, it seems to come together. I am pretty sure we brought the house down.
But… here’s what I love about this picture. The dude from The Bravery… notice he’s so drunk that he forgot to do up his belt.

Deepak Chopra set to launch his own ‘MYMAG’ magazine
Posted by Dan | Posted on 19-05-2010
If you follow this blog, you’ll probably be familiar with the media phenomenon that is turning the media world on it’s head. The concept of MYMAG, simply put, is to allow taste-makers, celebrities and other people of international note to create their own magazines, partly from their own unique content and partly from their favorite features from their favorite publications. The result is a unique magazine that exists both on line, with interactive content and a complete, perfect bound magazine in print form.
The latest MYMAG is being curated by none other than one of the world’s leading spiritual guru’s and author - Deepak Chopra.
Mr Choprs’s MYMAG gives a unique insight into his extraordinary life and teachings, whilst providing a fascinating inside look at never before seen photos and correspondences with some of the worlds most famous people, including President Clinton, Michael Jackson and George Harrison to name but a few.

The connection to Harrison also indirectly lead to the world’s most famous living illustrator - Alan Aldridge (excuse me Ma’am but where is his knighthood?) who was The Beatles’ ‘official’ illustrator, creating an absolutely stunning cover image for Deepak (below). Aldridge and Deepak also happen to share many similarities in their practice of Buddist philosophies, so this arrangement was seemingly a match made in, um… The Tao?
And the intimate relationship that he shared with Michael Jackson is presented with incredible, never before seen photos of them both in extraordinarily personal moments together.
You can pre-order your copy by visiting mymag.com
Peace and Love to all.

Miss Sixty - Welcome To The Jungle
Posted by Dan | Posted on 19-05-2010
A couple of weeks ago, something happen at the top of our road. It was The Miss Sixty launch of their summer collection, with a rather fantastic theme of ‘Welcome To The Jungle’. No, nothing really to do with Guns N Roses, more to do with a collection inspired by, well, the jungle. Handily, Miss Sixty asked us to produce the event, which we were more than happy to do as a) my old friends from Diesel - Gaetana and Silvia who now ran Miss Sixty’s global marketing and PR were coming over for the event, and b) it was, as I say, at the top of our road!

As a nice coincidence it also happened to be a good friend of Miss Sixty’s birthday that very same evening. And so it was that the stage was set for a birthday party for international film and TV actress Jenni Baird, and a celebration of the Miss Sixty summer collection.

The night was fantastic. The Flaunt Magazine team (our media partners) were in fine form, as were Jenni and her guests (who all seemed to have a smashing time). In fact, with the exception of the music equipment not working for the first 20 minutes (damn that dodgy serato system, what’s wrong with old fashioned vinyl… apart from the massive inconvenience?) which caused the infinitely patient and wonderful DJ Smiles Davis a few problems at the start, everything went off swimmingly.

The temperature was suitably tropical, partly because of the limited air conditioning, partly because of the sexy models causing a few of the gentlemen visitors to get a bit heated under the collar, and partly because DJ Kelly Cole turned up the heat on the decks.

Then it was time to sing Jenni the happy birthday song, which we did… then we had cake… then back to the bar for one of the delicious cocktails generously provided by Metl Tequila, alongside the rather great, full open bar to the delight of the thirsty fashionistas. Oh, and the canapes from Magnolia were delicious too!

Then it was off to Hyde for the after party, two bottles of Belvedere later (between us of course!) and it was time for home. That’s the benefit of living on Crescent Heights… all of that just happened on our road. 1 minute taxi ride and we were back, swaying in front of the babysitter. Good times.

Thanks to everyone at Miss Sixty, Flaunt, Lee Wallman and her team, the guys at Hyde, and everyone else involved.

Echo & the Bunny Ben (so sorry)
Posted by Dan | Posted on 05-05-2010
It’s a good job I’m not a real journalist as I would definitely have been fired for that awful pun. However, Ian McCulloch, the enigmatic lead singer of legendary group Echo & The Bunnymen came in to the Ben Sherman store in The Beverly Center in Los Angeles to pick up some bits and pieces for his forthcoming gig at Coachella.
‘This is my new favorite shop’ he said, ‘Well, this one and Adidas!’ That made me laugh (as Adidas were also giving him some freebees for the week’s gigs and interviews).

Ian, as the gentleman that few know that he is (but he is), posed for pictures with the store staff, who were a bit star struck I think… it’s usual for them to see Hollywood actors, but a bonafide music legend from the UK? They don’t come over to those parts too often.
Ian wore a Ben Sherman hoodie and shades on stage at Coachella whilst Will Sergeant (founder, co-writer & guitarist) wore the Ben Sherman pinstripe suit in front of 25,000 baying fans.

And how was the gig? I dunno. I missed it thanks to misinformation regarding my backstage passes, and a three hour traffic jam. That really wasn’t bunny (I’m fired).

Sexyback - The Domino effect.
Posted by Dan | Posted on 17-04-2010
Brett Domino has just done this medley cover of Timberlake classics. Apparently Justin loves it enough to link it to his site. It was also on G4 the other day and Olivia Munn LOVED IT! Brett Domino is breaking The States! Justified I think.
